Product Overview
The Carlo Gavazzi SD2DUG24 is a core gateway device within the Dupline® fieldbus system, designed to serve as a cost-effective Plug & Play solution for interfacing Dupline® I/O modules with upper-level control systems such as PLCs, DCS, or SCADA systems. It acts as a "data bridge" in industrial automation systems, enabling seamless integration between fieldbus devices and management systems.
The SD2DUG24 is a Dupline® bus generator module housed in a 2-DIN housing and is supplied with 24 V DC power. It replaces and upgrades the previous G34900000xxx and G34960005xxx modules. The module is fully programmable via software, which is available as a free download from the Carlo Gavazzi website.
Main Functions
The SD2DUG24 performs three primary functions:
- Dupline® Channel Generator: It generates the Dupline® carrier signal and manages communication channels on the bus.
- Power Supply Synchronization: It enables a 3-wire system with supply, providing power synchronization for the connected Dupline® modules.
- Modbus RS485 Interface: It provides a Modbus RTU slave interface, allowing the Dupline® network to connect to control systems via the widely used Modbus protocol.

System Benefits
- Integrated System: Dupline® is Carlo Gavazzi's 2-wire and 3-wire bus system.
- Cost Reduction: Using a bus system reduces installation costs, especially when I/O points are widely distributed.
- Fast and Easy Installation: Features a completely free topology, requires no special cable, and needs no screen or twisted pair wiring. The bus can run for up to 10 km and even further with repeaters.
- High Noise Immunity: Can be installed next to power cables without interference.
- Scalability & Modularity: New modules can be progressively integrated into the system as application needs grow. The system is composed of many bus-powered modules, allowing each installation to be precisely sized.
- Industrial-Grade Design: Offers high reliability, real-time data with millisecond-level data refresh, and strong anti-interference capability. It complies with EN 61000-6-2 standards for electromagnetic immunity.
Applications
The Dupline® bus system and the SD2DUG24 gateway offer solutions for a wide range of applications, including:
- Industrial Automation: Connecting sensors, actuators, and I/O modules on production lines for centralized control and monitoring.
- Building Automation: Centralized data acquisition and control for lighting, security, HVAC, and elevator systems in large buildings.
- Energy Management & Smart Grids: Collecting data from power, gas, or water utilities for SCADA systems to enable energy analysis and remote optimization.
- Water Distribution: Used in irrigation valve control and other water management systems.
- Railway Systems: Monitoring and control applications within railway infrastructure.
- Mining: Automation and monitoring in mining operations.
Integration & Configuration
The SD2DUG24 can be integrated into the Sx2WEB24 or the new UWP 3.0 platform, enhancing its communication capability and preparing it for the IIoT and Industry 4.0. Configuration is performed locally on a PC using free software, and the settings are transferred to the gateway via a USB port. The software tool allows for the setup of communication parameters and channel programming.
For optimal system performance, it is recommended to use a star or tree bus topology with repeaters, and to install a line terminator (e.g., DT01) at the bus end to reduce signal reflections.
